Most of our daily dive trips go around 3 local islands, along the
coast and to various other rocky outcroppings which are all within a 10-20
minute boat ride. There are over 20 local dive sites including the most
popular ones such as Punta Argentina,
Tortuga, Virador and Monkey Head. Fabulous,
varied diving in a spectacular surrounding!
The diving conditions are great year-round! With an average
visibility of 15 to 75ft/5 to 25m nobody can complain, as the nutrition-rich
waters attract all the fabulous and varied marine life, you’ll hardly see
anywhere else…
The water temperature has a year-round average of 80 F/ 26 C with
peaks as high as 85 F/ 30 C in June to August and as low as 65 F/ 20 C during
the months of December through to March. But don’t worry, the cool waters are
only found below the thermocline (separation line of cold and warm water,
situated between 45ft/15m and 100ft/30m), where you will dip in just
occasionally for a nice refreshing sensation! Most of the dives are held just
above the thermocline where most fish are hovering to go feed in the cool
deepwater swells…
Late December through to May is generally the time that the manta
rays flock to the famous Catalina Islands. These islands are located 35-45 minutes south-west of Playas del Coco. We have no minimum divers restrictions, so nobody is missing
this trip! And the more you are, the cheaper it gets…Ask about our rates!
The Bat Islands, or Islas Murcielagos, are another group of islands 90-120
minutes north-west of Playas del Coco and are part of the Santa
RosaNational Park.
They are particularly famous for their bull sharks. Diving here is also
seasonal, favoring the months between April and November, depending on the
northern winds. This trip requires advanced diving skills. To make sure, nobody
is missing this trip, we’ll go there with just one diver because we love it so
much!
August through to March is best to sight the migrating Humpback-,
Killer- (Orcas) and Sperm-whales on one of our Whale- and Dolphin-Watching
tours. But the many resident dolphin and whale species as well as the ever
present, beautiful coastline with its spread over islands and beautiful hidden
beaches make it worth a try year round.
For the nature friends, we offer a special Coast Explorer
Tour. This excursion includes a ride on a river with our “Panga” through
mangrove forests to discover the various birds that live in this inaccessible
territory. A stop on a secluded beach will give you the opportunity to snorkel
the under water live or just to enjoy the calm, lying in the white sand!
For the more romantic experience, we take you on a late
afternoon Cocktail Cruise to admire the always changing and breathtaking
sunset/moonrise. We’ll serve you snacks and home made rum-punch to enjoy with
your loved one…
